Crystal Palace Park Steering Group Meeting 26th February 2007 11.30pm, Conference Room 6, City Hall Key points National Sports Centre • £4.2million has been allocated to refurbish the plant for the swimming pool at the National Sports Centre. • The pool will be closed from autumn 2007 until around Easter 2008. • The refurbishment will keep the pool open until a new pool can be provided after the Olympics. • A decision on what buildings to keep open during the pool closure will be taken over the next two months. Updated masterplan • Car parking spaces reduced from 570 to 400. • Improved public transport links. • Residential development to be limited. • Archaeological work should begin after Easter. • Caravan Club site to be reduced or relocated. • Design process will be ‘frozen’ in June with an aim to submitting a planning application in September 2007. Tramlink • Extension proposed between Beckenham Junction and Crystal Palace. • Engineers now say this would require three platforms at Crystal Palace, rather than two which causes difficulties with the space available. • There has been very positive feedback to the proposed extension. • There is public support for the off-road routing option, but this would be very costly and would take out some housing. • Next round of public consultation due in April. • Engineers will be working to try and resolve technical difficulties. • Construction target – 2011. Capel Manor • Will provide horticultural training and outreach. • Planning application to re-open the farm will be submitted to Bromley in the next month. • Courses will continue to run from the Jubilee stand. • Aim to have farm open in summer 2007. Other • The turnstiles near the rail station will be removed in the next 5-6 weeks. • Attendees were asked to note the latest edition of ‘Park News’ and the CPP branding. • The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will stage a series of concerts in the park over the summer.
