The Draft Crystal Palace Park Planning Framework sets out the LDA's ambitious plans for the renewal and rejuvenation of the Park and was a significant step forward in terms of addressing the Park’s need for revitalisation to reflect its significant historical, ecological and recreational importance.
The Draft Planning Framework developed ideas about how the Park could be reconnected with its surroundings and local communities.
It also demonstrated how improved and expanded transport links, better interpretation and educational opportunities, and improved facilities as a whole could contribute to the regeneration of the wider South East London area. The framework describes proposals for a stunning new Regional Sports Centre and showed how these proposals would allow the London Development Agency (LDA) to return to parkland, large areas (roughly 43 acres) currently occupied by buildings and car parks. Above all this vision for Crystal Palace Park shows how the LDA, in partnership with local stakeholders, can make the Park safe and enjoyable for all.
The LDA submitted a Planning Framework to London Borough of Bromley and held a public consultation exercise in October to December 2005 on its proposals. As a result of that consultation, it adjusted proposals and dropped plans to build housing in the Norwood Triangle corner of the Park.
After moving into the second phase of activity, the LDA appointed award winning German landscape architects Latz und Partner to lead the detailed masterplanning of the Park. The masterplan led to the submission of a planning application to the London Borough of Bromley in November 2007. The process is focused on extensive ongoing public consultation and developing solutions that maximise the rejuvenation potential of Crystal Palace Park.
