Italian Terraces - final phase of regeneration

The regeneration of the Italian Terraces is now in its final phase.

Between now and early December, the Terraces are closed as the finishing touches including soil aeration and the seeding of grass and flowers will take place.

Now we are into autumn and the dry conditions and drought experienced across the country are easing, it is the optimum time for this work to take place – the soil contains more moisture and remains warm from the summer which suits the establishment of roots.

Previous work to the Italian Terraces has already included:

  • Improved drainage to help prevent pooling of water and flooding
  • Increased planting and wildflower meadows to increase biodiversity
  • Restoration of the stonework
  • Improved access through the addition of two step-free routes
  • The relocation of Paxton Bust back to its original location

This is the concluding stage of extensive park-wide regeneration delivered by London Borough of Bromley and by Crystal Palace Park Trust that, in addition to the restoration of the Terraces, has included:

  • The restoration of the world-famous Crystal Palace Dinosaurs
  • The opening of a new Dinosaur Playground
  • The opening of a new Visitor Centre
  • Extensive park-wide wayfinding and landscaping
  • A new grounds maintenance depot

Continued thanks for your ongoing patience as the finishing touches are delivered.
